Sober Date Ideas <3

Uncategorized / Monday, February 12th, 2018

Hallmark has paired up with Cupid and together they declare February the month of love (puke!)  Therefore, this #sobersunday I’ve polled the gals and guys over at Badass Sober Sisters and Sober Movement to compile a list of favorite sober dating activities.

Now truth be told, in active addiction I have done almost everything on this list completely shit-faced. The date ideas themselves, won’t keep you sober. What can keep you sober, is making a mindful decision not to pick up. There’s no sober equation for dating. In all actuality, most ventures can be done without using any substance (except maybe wine tasting). Nonetheless, perhaps one of these activities will peak your interest. <3

So, without further ado-

When it comes to dating in sobriety, I don’t believe there are any rules. I dated in early sobriety. What I love most about my now husband is that he is a fellow sober peep. It is incredibly freeing dating someone who understands that side of me. I’ve never had to explain a trigger, justify going to a meeting nor worry that he’ll pressure me to have just one. He understands my lingo, we celebrate our tiny victories.

What’s so nice about dating someone who doesn’t drink or do drugs is that we both want to partake in social activities that don’t involve either. On our first date, we played miniature golf. We smoked a lot of hookah, we went to meetings, we sat in his parked car talking for hours, we binged watched shows, we discovered a love for hiking, we went to the gym, we napped, etc. After a few years of sobriety we no longer seek out sober activities, living is just our sober activity, and I have more fun now than I ever did in all my years of drinking.  <3

xox Thanks for letting me share.

  1. Absolutely love this! My husband and I found that the only time we were having “fun” was when we were drinking, and that’s not the kind of mom or wife I want to be. So I haven’t had a drink since New Years Eve. Thanks for sharing <3

    1. Congrats on your newfound sobriety Jenn! That’s wonderful you noticed a problem and decided to change it ♥️ my husband and I now how two kids, so our fun usually consists of eating chocolate and binge watching big brother 😅 I am planning a haunted tour for us tho. Again, congrats on not drinking! If you’re ever looking for a network of encouraging mamas that seek sobriety in ways other than the 12 step programs, checkout “sober mommies” on Facebook. Honestly one of my biggest support outlets ♥️
